Dashboard
After logging in, you are taken to the Dashboard — the central start page of OpenVLE.
Here you get an at-a-glance overview of your most important resources, activities, and systems.
Where can I find this section?
Via main menu: Dashboard
Alternatively accessible via: The dashboard is displayed directly after login or can be accessed via the main menu.
Features at a Glance
- Overview of personal or system-wide activities
- Quick access to frequently used external systems (e.g., Confluence, ticket system)
- Display of virtual machines, environments, and templates in table or tile-based layout
- Status indicators for running processes, tasks, or upcoming events
- Role-based display of information depending on permissions (user, trainer, administrator)
Accessing Resources
Which content appears on the dashboard depends on your user permissions:
- Own resources: You only see your personal objects (e.g., your own VMs or environments).
- Organization resources: As an administrator, you can see all resources in the system.
- Global view: With extended roles (e.g., system administration or superuser), you gain access to additional information.
This way, you always see only the content that is relevant to your role.
Example or Use Case
A student logs into OpenVLE and sees their active environments, the associated virtual machines, and upcoming event dates on the dashboard. Via the tiles, they can navigate directly to their systems without having to open other sections.
An administrator sees an overview of all running events, system-wide tasks, and open processes on their dashboard. They also have direct access to infrastructure sections such as Templates, VMs, or User Management.
Notes / Special Considerations
- The dashboard is individually tailored to the permissions of the logged-in user.
- System-wide notifications are also displayed here.
- Certain modules (e.g., activities or tasks) are only shown when the corresponding permissions are available.
- For external links (e.g., ticket system, Confluence), the access rights of the respective target system always apply.
